J. Matthew Stacy, Jr. DDS, MDS, Board Certified Orthodontist

Education

Dr. Stacy began his professional education at the University of West Virginia, where he graduated Magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the West Virginia University School of Dental Medicine, then moved to Pittsburgh to further his studies; it was there that he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, completing an orthodontic residency and earning a Certificate of Orthodontics and a Master of Dental Science degree. Dr. Stacy achieved Board Certification by the American Board of Orthodontics in 1982, signaling his dedication to provide excellent patient care. He believes that education is a lifelong journey, so he stays up to date on the latest data and technologies in orthodontics by attending continuing education courses and professional conferences, and he uses this knowledge to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.

 

Community

Dr. Stacy is an active member of the dental community, both as a practicing clinician and as an educator of dental professionals. He holds a number of positions at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP); there, he treats complicated cases and teaches other professionals the skills needed to provide thorough and effective patient care. He is the Attending Clinician in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery, and serves as Program Director of the Craniofacial and Special Care Orthodontic Fellowship. It is through these roles that he is able to provide much-needed services for a variety of patients, and improve the overall quality of dental care in the area through education of other dental professionals. He is a guest lecturer at Allegheny General Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Orthodontics.

Dr. Stacy has been recognized by his peers for his professional contributions to the community, and this recognition has earned him a Fellowship in the prestigious American College of Dentists. This organization recognizes dentists who have exemplified excellence through their outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. Membership in the American College of Dentists is by invitation only, offered only after nomination by a current Fellow and subsequent peer reviews and evaluations. Only 3.5% of all dentists have earned membership to the organization, and Dr. Stacy is proud to be one of them.

 

Affiliations

Dr. Stacy is deeply involved with a number of professional organizations, having served as chairperson on a number of committees within various organizations. He also served on the Pennsylvania Board of Orthodontics as Treasurer, Director, and then President. He is the editor of the Journal of the Pennsylvania Board of Orthodontics.
